From VIU University, we participated in the 34th Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition which was held from 17 to 20 September 2023 in Toulouse (France).

The conference was attended by more than 7300 participants from more than 100 countries, where the theme was “En route!” The conference was a call to action to the higher education community to set out on a transformation that will enable universities to regain relevance in their communities, their ecosystems and at European and global level. The event focused on exploring the opportunities offered by advanced digital technologies, implementing sustainable practices in our institutions and developing innovative approaches to support an increasingly pluralistic community of students, research faculty and staff.

At this Conference, Toñi Caro, together with Laura Howard and Mavi Calabrese hosted a session entitled En route toward reconciling internationalisation with local/regional impact‘, where the focus was on strategies to connect universities’ internationalisation agendas with the impact and benefits for their local, regional and national communities. In this session, the role of European university alliances was highlighted and two of them were given as examples, one consolidated such as SEA-EU (European University of the Seas) and the other emerging such as Qn European Alliance, co-led by the University of Urbino and Valencian International University.
